Just don't expect them to be able to tell you what you need for a performance build. and will ship to you if you don't have one local. If you know exactly what you want, or need, parts-wise you can buy from Transtar. You will also need a hardened intermediate sprag race for a stronger build. When it comes to bushings you will need the correct tools to drive them in and the driver kits are not cheap. Also be sure to get a wide bushing for the direct drum as opposed to the standard width bush that comes with most kits. As a standard course of rebuild you should replace EVERY bushing in the unit, and in fact you can double up on the bushings in the sun gear if you buy extras from your supplier. The TH350 unit is typically pretty hard on bushings. You can easily modify the V6 units to be just like a V8 unit if you know what you are doing and/or have access to a lathe. Depending on what your trans came out of, there are differences between the V8 & V6 units in the way of more frictions. This is where the skill & experience of a good builder come in. When you want to get really advanced and start modifying drums & backing plates so that you can pack more frictions into the clutch stacks you won't find that type of information anywhere. ATSG books are great but sometimes the verbiage and the way they are written are a bit too technical for the first time builder. You can also look for Jake's write up which he has posted publicly and it talks about many good performance modifications for that transmission. To the OP-there are many good books on rebuilding the TH-350. It's not worth dumping 10 lbs of dirt & filth into my parts washer trying to get a TH350 case clean. When they come to our shop looking like that we send the customer away. They are usually so covered in filth that you can't see the heads of the bolts to disassemble them. The only thing I don't like about building the old 3 speeds is that they come in with 2" of dirt/crud/grease/engine oil all over them. Look for another shop to build your transmission as $500 to put a trans together with parts YOU are supplying is way too much money.
